Facebook’s latest evolution of the news feed is huger than huge — more of a revolution than an evolution. The new Facebook news feed automatically filters the live stream down to recommendations you are likely to find interesting, based on who you know and who you interact with most. Facebook has just launched the first volley into social recommendations. Think of it as Amazon-like recommendations for the social stream, but ever-more powerful as it dramatically and automagically cuts down on the signal to noise ratio that has plagued the social web. I’ve always said that you have to first turn up the volume before you can figure out how to best turn it down. What’s most striking is how quickly and effectively Facebook has moved in this direction.
